Plus 10 foal numbers surge

  • Almost 4,600 2015 foals entered into Plus 10
  • Growth of 20% compared with same time last year
  • 58% of Flat British and Irish foal crop is Plus 10 registered

On the cusp of the 2015 foal sales, Plus 10 is thrilled to announce almost 4,600 foals have been entered into the £5.5 million bonus scheme. Compared with the same time period in 2014, this marks year-on-year growth of 20%.

Plus 10 registered foals also total 58% of the 2015 foal crop intended for a career on the Flat, as released by the Stud Book earlier this week*.

The strong growth recorded by the scheme has been revealed ahead of the major British and Irish foal sales at Goffs in County Kildare and Tattersalls in Newmarket over the next fortnight, where almost 1,400 Plus 10 foals will be sold.

Plus 10 Committee Chairman, Julian Richmond-Watson, said the scheme’s continued growth reflected its great value to owners and breeders who had shared in almost £3.2 million in bonuses won on the track, plus the continuation of higher prices being paid for Plus 10 horses in the sales ring.

“Strong support from breeders is integral to the scheme’s continued success and we are delighted with the show of support from British and Irish breeders in 2015. We look forward to this foal crop hitting the track in 2017 and breeders winning a share of the rich £5.5 million bonus prize pool.

“More immediately, we look forward to watching Plus 10 foals being sold over the next fortnight and a repeat of the action in 2014 when Plus 10 foals consistently sold for more money than non-plus 10 lots.”
